Introduction to Oil Painting

In this workshop students have the opportunity to work with oil paint; a medium not traditionally used in post primary schools. The texture and vibrant colours of oil paint make it a satisfying material to use with rewarding results, even for beginners.

The workshop is four hours long and is broken into two sections.  To start the students follow a demonstration session with the artist and get a chance to try out up to seven different techniques using brush, palette knife, sponge and other materials.  They also, follow the artist, and paint a small landscape and seascape.  Some samples are chosen by the student and are returned mounted, ready to frame.

In the second section of the workshop students work on an 8×8 canvas to create their own mini scape.

They will finish with at least three completed pieces of art work for exhibition.

All materials necessary for this workshop are provided: brush, palette knife, sponge, odourless paint thinner, oil paper, block, palette, oil paint and mount.

Cost per workshop:  €550 for 15 students – €600 for 20 students and €640 for 24 students
